I have ignored my body a lot, to the extent that recently, I was given micronutrients through injections. This is something, I am not proud of at the age of 36.
Today, portion size, variety of food, and frequency of eating have increased, but Nutrient deficiency is happening a lot.
Low Iron is linked with paleness, fatigue, hair fall, skin bruises, and dark circles.
Low Calcium is linked with weak teeth, nail brittleness, muscle twitching, and weak bones.
Low Magnesium is linked with weak nails, muscle cramps, heart health, insomnia, and weak bones.
Low B complex is linked with fatigue, anemia, poor memory, sore tongue, cracked lips, muscle numbness, and joint swelling.
Low Omega 3 is linked with dandruff, scalp flaking, brittle hair, skin dryness, artery health, and Joint inflammation.
Low Vitamin D is linked with depression, low motivation, poor memory, hair thinning, weak bones, and poor vision.
There used to be 5 major reasons behind nutrient deficiency- biological disorder, gender, genetics, age, and affordability.
But recently 7 more reasons have become prominent.
You need to know them.
Weak Gut: Irritated gut remains inflamed and becomes weaker and Leaky. Because an irritated Gut doesn't absorb nutrients effectively, it does not matter how much and what we eat. Avoiding milk and gluten for a month helps repair back gut, and eating vegetables provides fiber which supports healthy gut bacteria that recover leaky guts.
High stress: Stress makes the adrenalin gland release more cortisol. Cortisol is our flight or fight hormone that keeps us on our toes. Continuous high cortisol depletes stored nutrients faster as it tricks the body into fight mode.
Diet Quality: Lower intake of certain micronutrients and all focus on macronutrients is in trend. We seem to increase protein while lowering our fat intake. Half of the micronutrients are fat soluble and only get absorbed in the presence of fat. Our vegetables are overcooked, nuts are over-roasted, and fruits are the flavor of ice cream.
Diet Restriction: Intermittent fasting is misunderstood by many. Many treat intermittent fasting as a license to indulge in high carbs (pizza, burger) later in the day. It is a diet to restrict high glucose spikes for some extra duration, not to confuse having junk later. Junk fills your stomach but has a very poor nutrition profile.
Overexertion: No pain no gain, an old slogan still in trend. Mindless High-intensity workouts are known to cause a lot of oxidative stress and cortisol rise in the body. Long-term oxidative stress increases inflammatory cytokines. Slow Training and conditioning of the body using breathing or over-exertion with too much gym weights are two different things.
Metabolic Dysfunction: Enzyme secretion happens in the mouth, stomach, and in the small intestine. Due to habits and overcooking, our chewing has massively reduced. We need a certain quality and quantity of enzymes to extract nutrients from our food. Chew your food and not drink it.
Medication: Medicines deplete nutrients faster, hamper their absorption, and kill good bacteria in our gut that absorb nutrients from our diet. Paracetamol, Cetirizine, Pain killers, and Antibiotics are always at home. Do you actually need them so frequently?
None of the above should be our reasons for having nutrition deficiency if we become mindful. I am a latecomer, hope you don't have to be.
Repost if you believe someone should also get benefits.
I really appreciate your effort of composing these things in a logical way. i follow your posts very closely and read multiple times... especially the one " i am b12 deficienct but my kid is not" .is there a chance to talk to you over the email
